CCSRA AI Workshop Sparks Curiosity, Conversation, and Fun

The Clark County School Retirees’ Association hosted an AI workshop on February 5 at ESD 112, drawing a strong crowd of retirees eager to learn what artificial intelligence is all about — and why everyone is suddenly talking about it.

Rather than a technical lecture, the session focused on making AI approachable and practical. Attendees learned what AI actually is, how it works at a basic level, and how it can enhance everyday life. From managing health questions to planning trips, organizing projects, or helping with creative hobbies, participants saw real examples of how AI can be a helpful tool — not something to fear.

A highlight of the workshop was learning how to write a good prompt. Participants discovered that the quality of the answer depends on the quality of the question, and they practiced thinking through how to ask clearer, more useful questions. The presentation also included important reminders about using AI wisely, protecting personal information, and staying savvy consumers of technology.

The room was full of laughter, curiosity, and lively discussion. As Evie G. put it simply, “It was great!”

Attendees also shared ideas for future sessions. Beth M. encouraged continuing the program, saying, “We need to keep this updated and rerun as needed!” Bonnie P. added, “It would be great to bring a device and add time to ‘play’ next time.”

The workshop confirmed what organizers already suspected: retirees are enthusiastic learners who enjoy exploring new tools when the environment is welcoming and fun. Given the positive response, CCSRA is looking at ways to build on this momentum with future technology programs.
